Deux plaisanciers américains secourus en mer après une vaste opération de recherche

Deux plaisanciers américains ont été secourus par un pétrolier le 13 décembre à un peu plus de 200 milles à l’Est du Delaware. Une vaste opération de recherche avait été mise en branle pour retrouver les deux hommes âgés respectivement de 65 et 76 ans.

La Garde côtière américaine a fait état du sauvetage des deux marins du voilier Atrevida II à la suite d’une recherche couvrant plus de 21 000 milles d’océan.

Ont été retrouvés Kevin Hyde, 65 ans, et Joe Ditomasso, 76 ans, ainsi que leur chien. Ils avaient été en contact avec leur famille pour la dernière fois le 3 décembre, après avoir quitté Oregon Inlet, en Caroline du Nord. Partis de Cape May, New Jersey, ils comptaient¸se rendre à Marathon dans les Keys de Floride.

Ils ont été secourus par le pétrolier Silver Muna le 13 décembre à environ 214 milles à l’Est du Delaware comme l’a révélé le site gcaptain. Privé d’électronique et de carburant, l’Atrevida II se trouvait à la dérive sans aucun moyen de communication ni système de navigation.

Les deux hommes ont subi un examen médical qui n’a rien révélé d’inquiétant. Le Silver Muna devait les débarquer à New York, son prochain port d’escale, où ils subiront une évaluation plus approfondie et retrouveront leur famille et leurs amis.

Neptunus 650F Review

Over the years Canadian Yachting has had the pleasure of doing several boat review articles on new Neptunus models and we are familiar with the qualities that Neptunus is famous for. They have all been exceptional yachts, but this is the one I would most want to own myself. It’s a personal choice and a matter of taste as to whether you would prefer to have a sedan express model or a flybridge but in my opinion, the flybridge layout offers some wonderful attributes.

We met with Neptunus Managing Director Jan Willem De Jong this past fall to take the new Neptunus 650F out in Lake Ontario.

The Other Virgin Islands

I was first seduced by the United States Virgin Islands during a ferry ride from St. Thomas to Tortola to begin one of our earliest British Virgin Islands charters nearly twenty years ago.

Clearing Pillsbury Sound, surrounded by voluptuous emerald mountains as the ferry sliced through royal blue waters, I was struck by the unspoiled ambiance of St. John, the island gliding past our starboard beam and the irresistible charm of a village called Cruz Bay visible from our quarter stern.
