Bridge Port Marina

Nov 6, 2016

Summers in the Georgian triangle are incomparable. The fresh, open, endless water, the rustic landscape there is so much to love. As boaters, we want to make the most of our summers out on the water soaking in every minute of the breath-taking Georgian Bay.

In order to get the most out of your precious summer boating memories we’ve compiled some tips which will help to make your summer boating experience exceptional:

1. Location, location, location: With Georgian Bay being so expansive choosing a convenient location, well-suited to the type of boating you will be enjoying, becomes quite significant. You’ll want to ensure your marina is well-situated with easy access to the types of amenities you prefer, boating you like to do, and drive-time from home.

Bay Port Marina, for example is located conveniently close to Toronto, and is just a wave length away from many spectacular anchorages including: Beckwith Island, Christian Island, Frying Pan Bay, Hope Island and many more.

2. Community: The boating lifestyle for many is all about connecting with like-minded boaters who enjoy the water as much as you do. Choosing a marina that fosters a close sense of connectivity can enhance your summer boating experience creating life-long friendships and lasting memories.

Many Marinas, like Beacon Bay promotes a friendly boating community atmosphere and provides plenty of opportunities to meet new people, build new friendships, and have a great time both on and off the water.

Boaters can enjoy scheduled children’s activities (kids club) and special events throughout the year such as Winterfest, the Family Flotilla, Dealer Days and the Sailboat and Powerboat Rendezvous.

3. Affordability: It’s true, the boating life can be costly! That being the case be sure to search the Georgian Bay area marinas for deals. Some marinas, or marina groups offer discounts based on referrals, loyalty programs or even fuel discounts.

At Parkbridge Marinas they offer a popular budget-friendly fuel discount, for their loyal boating customers, when they dock at one of their four marinas conveniently located on Georgian Bay.

4. Comfort-ability: Just because you are out on the open water doesn’t mean you have to rough it! Choosing a marina with first-class amenities is another key factor in making your Georgian Bay boating lifestyle exceptional.

Many marinas such as Bay Moorings offer a wealth of on-land amenities such as a heated pool, playgrounds for the kids, a fitness centre, a spacious lounge area, and a fantastic boater’s lounge complete with covered porch overlooking the Bay.

Neptunus 650F Review

Neptunus 650F 400

By Andy Adams

Over the years Canadian Yachting has had the pleasure of doing several boat review articles on new Neptunus models and we are familiar with the qualities that Neptunus is famous for. They have all been exceptional yachts, but this is the one I would most want to own myself. It’s a personal choice and a matter of taste as to whether you would prefer to have a sedan express model or a flybridge but in my opinion, the flybridge layout offers some wonderful attributes.

We met with Neptunus Managing Director Jan Willem De Jong this past fall to take the new Neptunus 650F out in Lake Ontario.

The Other Virgin Islands

Sunset off St John

By Mark Stevens

I was first seduced by the United States Virgin Islands during a ferry ride from St. Thomas to Tortola to begin one of our earliest British Virgin Islands charters nearly twenty years ago.

A perfect sunset off St. John with St. Thomas views for backdrop.

Clearing Pillsbury Sound, surrounded by voluptuous emerald mountains as the ferry sliced through royal blue waters, I was struck by the unspoiled ambiance of St. John, the island gliding past our starboard beam and the irresistible charm of a village called Cruz Bay visible from our quarter stern.
