How many bunnies on a can of beer?

The other day it rained, so we postponed going out and sat under the gazebo. Naturally, the conversation turned to the age old Lethbridge, Alberta question, how many bunnies on a can of Old Style.

I don’t have to tell you there are a zillion kinds of beer for you across this great land, but regional tastes extend beyond beverages. What about classic boating nibblies like  chips and pretzels? No-one knows snacks or beverages better than boaters who spend long days on the dock consuming both then comparing notes.

I am told by cheesies cognoscenti, that Hawkins Cheezies from Belleville appeal to people on boats because they have been made overlooking the Bay of Quinte for 50 years. But regional tastes are far from uniform. For example, consider the ad copy from New Brunswick’s Covered Bridge brand: “Made with ingredients harvested from the Saint John River Valley in the heart of potato country and carefully cooked in our local factory.”  Makes me want to get in the boat and head for Gagetown to buy a bag.

When I studied the BC snack landscape in some depth, I seemed to always end up at THOSE pretzels made right near the best Lower Mainland mooring spots.

Snacks and beer – it’s the glorious days of summer in Canada and that means lots of boating so eat it up.

(And just for laughs, I have included a photo of Ken and Barbie in the Barbie Boat.)

Neptunus 650F Review

Neptunus 650F 400

By Andy Adams

Over the years Canadian Yachting has had the pleasure of doing several boat review articles on new Neptunus models and we are familiar with the qualities that Neptunus is famous for. They have all been exceptional yachts, but this is the one I would most want to own myself. It’s a personal choice and a matter of taste as to whether you would prefer to have a sedan express model or a flybridge but in my opinion, the flybridge layout offers some wonderful attributes.

We met with Neptunus Managing Director Jan Willem De Jong this past fall to take the new Neptunus 650F out in Lake Ontario.

The Other Virgin Islands

Sunset off St John

By Mark Stevens

I was first seduced by the United States Virgin Islands during a ferry ride from St. Thomas to Tortola to begin one of our earliest British Virgin Islands charters nearly twenty years ago.

A perfect sunset off St. John with St. Thomas views for backdrop.

Clearing Pillsbury Sound, surrounded by voluptuous emerald mountains as the ferry sliced through royal blue waters, I was struck by the unspoiled ambiance of St. John, the island gliding past our starboard beam and the irresistible charm of a village called Cruz Bay visible from our quarter stern.
