The Lake Ontario 300/600 Challenge is Finally Here

Loor 300

July 12, 2016

Registration for the 2016 running of the LO300 & 600 presented by driveHG.ca is now over 100 boats, 14 of whom are going to attempt to complete the Main Duck course twice – racing in the 600 Challenge.

The 2016 running of the LO300 Challenge promises to be a dramatic and competitive event with a return of ‘O Canada’, an Open 60, as well as appearances from a number of challengers for line honours, including ‘Spitfire’ a Farr 45, and ‘Afterburn’ a Soto 40.

In addition, we’ll see past winners of the Sperry Cup Trophy, which is awarded for overall Best Corrected Time, at the start line once again. This includes; ‘Pearl’ a C&C 35, and ‘Setanta’ a Hanse 400.

We are expecting many fans to be camped out on the head lands next to PCYC again this year on Saturday morning to watch the parade of over 100 boats heading out for the start around 10:25 am.

All race participants and fans of the Lake Ontario 300 and 600 race will be able to follow the progress of all boats through Yellowbrick, one of the world’s leaders in satellite-based tracking services. They use the Iridium satellite system for unmatched performance anywhere in the world. See LO300 Race Tracker

Media are welcome at the Port Credit Yacht Club and will be taken out on a boat to watch the start of the race.

A photo contest will take place during the race with an opportunity to win a car detailing package courtesy of driveHG.ca. The winning photos will be posted to the LOOR, Humberview Chevrolet Buick GMC and Humberview Volkswagen Facebook pages following the event.

By Andy Adams

Over the years Canadian Yachting has had the pleasure of doing several boat review articles on new Neptunus models and we are familiar with the qualities that Neptunus is famous for. They have all been exceptional yachts, but this is the one I would most want to own myself. We met with Neptunus Managing Director Jan Willem De Jong this past fall to take the new Neptunus 650F out in Lake Ontario.

The Other Virgin Islands

Sunset off St John

By Mark Stevens

I was first seduced by the United States Virgin Islands during a ferry ride from St. Thomas to Tortola to begin one of our earliest British Virgin Islands charters nearly twenty years ago.

A perfect sunset off St. John with St. Thomas views for backdrop.

Clearing Pillsbury Sound, surrounded by voluptuous emerald mountains as the ferry sliced through royal blue waters, I was struck by the unspoiled ambiance of St. John, the island gliding past our starboard beam and the irresistible charm of a village called Cruz Bay visible from our quarter stern.
