Saltspring Island Sailing Club Certified as Clean Marine BC Eco-Rated Marina

SISC Clean Marine BC

May 25, 2016

Saltspring Island Sailing Club has been certified by the Georgia Strait Alliance as the southern Gulf Islands’ first Clean Marine BC Eco-Rated boating facility. At their 2016 Opening Day ceremonies on Sunday, May 1st, Sailing Club Past Commodore Eric van Soeren (centre), who spearheaded the application for this certification, raised the flag designating our Club as an Eco-Rated Marina. The Club’s own mini pipe and drum corps, Rod Macdonald (left) and Philippe Erdmer piped the Club Officers to the clubhouse for the celebration.

All SISC Club members should take great pride in this achievement. In keeping with our Club Vision, we want to set a good example for the whole Gulf Islands community by taking environmental responsibility while enjoying our beautiful waters. (photos by Silk Questo).

Sunset off St John

By Mark Stevens

I was first seduced by the United States Virgin Islands during a ferry ride from St. Thomas to Tortola to begin one of our earliest British Virgin Islands charters nearly twenty years ago.

A perfect sunset off St. John with St. Thomas views for backdrop.

Clearing Pillsbury Sound, surrounded by voluptuous emerald mountains as the ferry sliced through royal blue waters, I was struck by the unspoiled ambiance of St. John, the island gliding past our starboard beam and the irresistible charm of a village called Cruz Bay visible from our quarter stern.
