CY’s Gift Guide will make Santa proud

The December issue of Canadian Yachting has a wide variety of nautical editorial to please the newcomers as well as the life-long boaters. This December issue again features our Holiday Gift Guide, this time assembled by our new CY team member, Allegra Smith-Herriott.

A Canadian Yachting December tradition is our annual Marine Electrics Feature. This is the perfect time to plan repairs and upgrades to your boat. We interviewed the engineers and product managers at four of the top companies for their most affordable, most user-friendly new electronics.

“Ask” Andrew McDonald brings us a tech article about GFCI and ELCI Circuits and why they are so important to safety. Greg Nicoll brings us aboard “Just Nick” to talk about their successful quest for a better boarding ladder and Rob Mazza brings us a wonderful update on the Canadian Sailing Hall of Fame and the most recent inductees. Also, look for boat reviews on the sexy and affordable new Viko S35 and the high-style, sixty-foot Azimut S6. All this and more in the December 2021 Canadian Yachting!

We met with Neptunus Managing Director Jan Willem De Jong this past fall to take the new Neptunus 650F out in Lake Ontario.

The Other Virgin Islands

Sunset off St John

By Mark Stevens

I was first seduced by the United States Virgin Islands during a ferry ride from St. Thomas to Tortola to begin one of our earliest British Virgin Islands charters nearly twenty years ago.

A perfect sunset off St. John with St. Thomas views for backdrop.

Clearing Pillsbury Sound, surrounded by voluptuous emerald mountains as the ferry sliced through royal blue waters, I was struck by the unspoiled ambiance of St. John, the island gliding past our starboard beam and the irresistible charm of a village called Cruz Bay visible from our quarter stern.
