Bytown Brigantine
Mar 22, 2016

Bytown Brigantine Tall Ships Adventure welcomes youth ages 12-18 the opportunity to sail off on the most unique summer programming available, an adventure of a lifetime. Our summer camps and voyages give youth the opportunity to challenge themselves, learn new skills and meet lots of new friends.   Sound great to you but you don’t have kids?  Consider one of our shoulder season adult voyages!

At Black Jack Island Adventure Camp youth 12-14 join the crew and sail the 87’ Black Jack on the Ottawa River. Chart your way to adventure on Alexandria Island. Haul the line, take your turn at the helm and climb the masts to set and douse the sails. Take a well-deserved break and cool off at anchor by swinging from the Tarzan rope into the river.  Under sail, oar or motor, take command of one of our 27’ navy whalers to explore the area around our home base, Alexandria Island. Not sailing? Other challenges await you on the island: compete in teams in island-wide games, raft building, low ropes course and the Tall Ships Olympics. Reflecting on the day, relax around the campfire and drift off sleep on in your bunk on a logging-era bunk barge. Camps are 5-10 days in length and are offered in a co-ed or all girl format.

Fair Jeanne Voyages – Sailing the mighty St. Lawrence River and Lake Ontario, trainees 13-18 years old have the opportunity to work alongside crew to sail this 110’ tall ship. Casting off from Brockville or Kingston, Ontario youth can come aboard for a 5-day voyage of discovery, a multi-week adventure or even a 21-day voyage offering options for a High School Credit, Flat Water Kayaking Level 1 or PADI Open Water Scuba Certification.  The adventure is yours to build.

Neptunus 650F Review

Neptunus 650F 400

By Andy Adams

Over the years Canadian Yachting has had the pleasure of doing several boat review articles on new Neptunus models and we are familiar with the qualities that Neptunus is famous for. They have all been exceptional yachts, but this is the one I would most want to own myself. It’s a personal choice and a matter of taste as to whether you would prefer to have a sedan express model or a flybridge but in my opinion, the flybridge layout offers some wonderful attributes.

We met with Neptunus Managing Director Jan Willem De Jong this past fall to take the new Neptunus 650F out in Lake Ontario.

The Other Virgin Islands

Sunset off St John

By Mark Stevens

I was first seduced by the United States Virgin Islands during a ferry ride from St. Thomas to Tortola to begin one of our earliest British Virgin Islands charters nearly twenty years ago.

A perfect sunset off St. John with St. Thomas views for backdrop.

Clearing Pillsbury Sound, surrounded by voluptuous emerald mountains as the ferry sliced through royal blue waters, I was struck by the unspoiled ambiance of St. John, the island gliding past our starboard beam and the irresistible charm of a village called Cruz Bay visible from our quarter stern.
