Peterborough also organized a Boaters Blessing with St. John’s Anglican Church in Lakefield, Ontario.

Boaters of all ages and their crew were invited to join the St. John’s congregation for a special service and blessing to coincide with this summer’s boating season. Boaters brought a small item from their watercraft to be blessed such as a life jacket, compass, paddle, hat and of course the captain and crew. The St John’s Church Band played nautical hymns and refreshments were served. Members from Peterborough Power and Sail Squadron were on hand to answer boating safety or training questions.

Clearing Pillsbury Sound, surrounded by voluptuous emerald mountains as the ferry sliced through royal blue waters, I was struck by the unspoiled ambiance of St. John, the island gliding past our starboard beam and the irresistible charm of a village called Cruz Bay visible from our quarter stern.
