It’s Back – Safety And Flare Return Days 2019

Safety Days

June 10, 2019

Finally the news that we have been waiting for. On May 15th the Minister for Transport Canada approved our funding request to continue the Safety and Flare Return Days program for the next three years.

Squadrons can now begin contacting local marine retailers to see if they wish to participate with them in an event this season.

A Safety and Flare Return days 2019-2021 Squadron and Retailer Request and Information Form has been sent to all Squadron and District Commanders and they have been asked to complete this form with the Squadron’s partner retailer and send the request for an event to my attention, jgullick@cps-ecp.ca with a cc to Mike Smith, equinoxm@cogeco.ca.

A total of 35 events across the country will be approved this year which is about the same number as we approved in 2017. In 2020 and 2021 we will be able to hold up to 50 events each year.

We will review the requests, select a good cross section of locations across Canada and then inform Squadrons and provide them with all required information and materials that they will need. CIL Orion will send the necessary shipping cartons and instructions direct to the retailers.

For those of you who held events in the past you will see few, if any, changes to the program.

2019 Dates and locations are available here. Check back often as more dates are added.

If you have any questions please feel free to contact me at jgullick@cps-ecp.ca

Neptunus 650F Review

Neptunus 650F 400

By Andy Adams

Over the years Canadian Yachting has had the pleasure of doing several boat review articles on new Neptunus models and we are familiar with the qualities that Neptunus is famous for. They have all been exceptional yachts, but this is the one I would most want to own myself. It’s a personal choice and a matter of taste as to whether you would prefer to have a sedan express model or a flybridge but in my opinion, the flybridge layout offers some wonderful attributes.

We met with Neptunus Managing Director Jan Willem De Jong this past fall to take the new Neptunus 650F out in Lake Ontario.

The Other Virgin Islands

Sunset off St John

By Mark Stevens

I was first seduced by the United States Virgin Islands during a ferry ride from St. Thomas to Tortola to begin one of our earliest British Virgin Islands charters nearly twenty years ago.

A perfect sunset off St. John with St. Thomas views for backdrop.

Clearing Pillsbury Sound, surrounded by voluptuous emerald mountains as the ferry sliced through royal blue waters, I was struck by the unspoiled ambiance of St. John, the island gliding past our starboard beam and the irresistible charm of a village called Cruz Bay visible from our quarter stern.
