CPS-ECP on the way to make available online learning!

Online Learning

Dec 19, 2019

Since our time in Victoria at the AGM the Outreach group has been very busy. We were able to present our innovative success at several occasions and draw together a good number of people interested in pursuing the development of Online Education in CPS-ECP. In the last three months our team has expanded and begun to organize to deploy the Moodle platform as our primary delivery tool.

Moodle will be used to deliver the e-learning elements that include the Textbook for the course, video instruction, practice quizzes and other elements that can enhance learning. A weekly Webinar will take place on a set schedule where the students can interact with an instructor and other guests. It is during this time that homework will be reviewed, and the instructor will ensure that students grasp all the concepts of the previous weeks content. Throughout the time of the course students will be able to also interact with a locally assigned Tutor by phone, online or in person.

In the new year we will be offering Boating 2, Boating 3 and Boating 4. French versions of 2 and 3 are planned for the coming year as well and plans are underway to develop online versions of Boating 5, 6 and 7.

Our plans also include making Maritime Radio available! Although this course requires a face to face exam, having the course work all available online will add to the flexibility that todays culture demands.

To find the online course offerings go to https://www.cps-ecp.ca/course-catalog/ and then select “07 – Online” You will find displayed all the current online courses. Where you find two courses that are the same you will note that one is in Pacific Time and the other in Eastern. All courses offered are for everyone across the country.

If you are in a smaller squadron that has not been able to offer a full suite of courses, then here is your chance to serve your boating community more fully.

For further information about online offerings or how your Squadron can be involved please contact Eric Phinney ANEO Outreach ebphinn@gmail.com

Neptunus 650F Review

Neptunus 650F 400

By Andy Adams

Over the years Canadian Yachting has had the pleasure of doing several boat review articles on new Neptunus models and we are familiar with the qualities that Neptunus is famous for. They have all been exceptional yachts, but this is the one I would most want to own myself. It’s a personal choice and a matter of taste as to whether you would prefer to have a sedan express model or a flybridge but in my opinion, the flybridge layout offers some wonderful attributes.

We met with Neptunus Managing Director Jan Willem De Jong this past fall to take the new Neptunus 650F out in Lake Ontario.

The Other Virgin Islands

Sunset off St John

By Mark Stevens

I was first seduced by the United States Virgin Islands during a ferry ride from St. Thomas to Tortola to begin one of our earliest British Virgin Islands charters nearly twenty years ago.

A perfect sunset off St. John with St. Thomas views for backdrop.

Clearing Pillsbury Sound, surrounded by voluptuous emerald mountains as the ferry sliced through royal blue waters, I was struck by the unspoiled ambiance of St. John, the island gliding past our starboard beam and the irresistible charm of a village called Cruz Bay visible from our quarter stern.
