CPS-ECP 2022 AGM & Conference

CPS-ECP 2022 AGM & Conference

June 23, 2022

OCTOBER 24 -30th

It doesn’t seem too long ago, that we started to plan for our first in-person Conference in over 2 years, but time seems to move sometimes more quickly than we would like. We last met together in beautiful Victoria, BC, and many of us enjoyed so much, not only the events of the Conference itself, but also of the many attractive and interesting places around the area that we could visit. This same enjoyment can be yours when coming to the Toronto Conference this year. An important date to take note of however, is that of the discounted rate for the Hotel rooms.

If booked before July 26, 2022 (subject to availability) the rate of $229.00 per night, + taxes will apply. After this date, and until reservations close on October 3, 2022, the rate will be $249.00 per night, + taxes. You can call the Sheraton Centre Toronto Hotel at 1-888-627-7175, identifying yourself as part of the CPS-ECP group, to reserve your room. Bookings may also be made online (See the Registration Form on the Website).

An integral function of our Conferences has always been the Friday Fun Night. Over the years, we have encouraged the celebration of our Theme through the wearing of a particular type of dress or costume. This year, Toronto Welcomes the World, will give a huge opportunity for your imaginations to run wild! You can choose a traditional dress from anywhere in the world – or that of your own family country of origin. We will have a competition for both couples and singles, to select the costume that our judges deem to be in this Theme spirit. Of course, all are welcome if they prefer to wear casual attire. We particularly hope you will enjoy our Buffet, celebrating our Theme, which will include items for you to taste that perhaps may be new to you. Everyone should come prepared to have a really good time!

Also, this year will be a Change of Watch, when we welcome a new Chief Commander and Board of Directors. There is no charge to attend the Annual General Meeting on Saturday 29th October, although the Registration Form requires that you signify your plan to attend. Check out the Form for the several options offered to you. Early registration will help our Committee in planning the capacities for the various events. You may also watch for news of our Tour calendar, which will be published in the coming editions.

The Districts of York West, York East and Quinte, are all looking forward to welcoming you, so keep your Calendars clear of anything except the date of October 24/30th, for a great time in Toronto.

Neptunus 650F Review

Neptunus 650F 400

By Andy Adams

Over the years Canadian Yachting has had the pleasure of doing several boat review articles on new Neptunus models and we are familiar with the qualities that Neptunus is famous for. They have all been exceptional yachts, but this is the one I would most want to own myself. It’s a personal choice and a matter of taste as to whether you would prefer to have a sedan express model or a flybridge but in my opinion, the flybridge layout offers some wonderful attributes.

We met with Neptunus Managing Director Jan Willem De Jong this past fall to take the new Neptunus 650F out in Lake Ontario.

The Other Virgin Islands

Sunset off St John

By Mark Stevens

I was first seduced by the United States Virgin Islands during a ferry ride from St. Thomas to Tortola to begin one of our earliest British Virgin Islands charters nearly twenty years ago.

A perfect sunset off St. John with St. Thomas views for backdrop.

Clearing Pillsbury Sound, surrounded by voluptuous emerald mountains as the ferry sliced through royal blue waters, I was struck by the unspoiled ambiance of St. John, the island gliding past our starboard beam and the irresistible charm of a village called Cruz Bay visible from our quarter stern.
