Apr 26, 2023May 1, 2023 Pre-rally departure from Antigua to Bermuda (independent of rally)
May 10, 2023 Homeward Bound rally departure from St Thomas, USVI and Marsh Harbor, Bahamas
May 14, 2023 Bermuda to New England rally departure
The Salty Dawgs Homeward Bound Rally is an offshore passage in the company of other boats of many nationalities. The official destination is Hampton, Virginia, USA, but boats will sail directly to various ports on the US East Coast and Canada.
The rally to the US this May will have departures from St Thomas, Marsh Harbor Bahamas and Bermuda. Last fall many skippers expressed interest in a stop in Bermuda which turned out to be impractical for most. With this in mind, the Homeward Bound Rally to the US will include a departure from Bermuda for points north.
The weather in Bermuda in mid-May is generally more settled than in November and is considered an easier time to plan a stop.
As participants in SDSA rallies are considered to be part of the rally until their first landfall, some boats will likely opt to head to Bermuda for an extended visit on May 1st, with a departure from Antigua. Bob Osborn, SV Pandora and President of SDSA, will lead this segment. For those who opt for this segment in advance of the official departure date for the rally will contract with Chris Parker for this segment independent of the rally. There will be a departure dinner in Antigua at the AYC Clubhouse restaurant on April 29th. With this in mind, participants will have the option to head to Bermuda in early May on their own as noted above and then depart for points north in mid-May as part of the rally to New England.
Others that wish to head from the Bahamas or St Thomas will depart on or about May 10th for points north.
As with all Salty Dawg rallies, the stated departure date is a goal, the actual date the fleet leaves port is weather dependent. The Rally includes weather routing, position tracking, and an extensive level of coordination and support during the offshore passage.
