Le Boat BasinLe Boat, leaders in European and Canadian private houseboating adventures, have announced their Black Friday deals for tourists looking to explore Europe or the UNESCO World Heritage Rideau Canal in 2022. This year’s Black Friday deals will run from November 25 to December 1 and customers can save up to 25 percent on 2022 France and Canada boat rental vacations.

“Le Boat is an ideal option for those looking to vacation next summer,” said Lisa Mclean, North American marketing manager for Le Boat. “Being on your private cruiser is like being on a luxury floating cottage and allows travel in your own social bubble, sleep on board, cook & BBQ onboard, set your schedule, determine where you stop and whom you interact with.”

Le Boat CanalIn Canada, Le Boat has a fleet of 30 premier Horizon Cruisers and the UNESCO Rideau Canal is a specular waterway of private islands, wide open lakes, protected wetlands, peppered with small artisan villages along the way. The 125 miles / 202 km of continuous waterway stretches from Kingston to Ottawa and is a vast network of pristine lakes, winding rivers and canals, all connected by a historical lock system.

“Le Boat makes it as easy for people to be able to explore Ontario’s great outdoors and have an amazing getaway,” said Mclean. “No boat license or previous boating experience is required. Our experienced base team teaches you everything you need to know to captain your own boat and navigate safely through the lock system. If you can drive a car, you can drive one of our boats, plus we provide you with suggested itineraries to help you plan your unique adventure with your friends and family.

Le Boat BridgeDiscover the beauty of France and its countryside from the country's canals and romantic rivers and discover the many historical sites along the canals or stop at any time to relax, indulge in fine French wines and delicious food. Boaters can choose from nine different cruising regions in France, each with its own distinct scenery, gastronomy, culture, and charm and explore them at their own pace, from the privacy of your own boat.

Beneteau Oceanis Yacht 54By Zuzana Prochazka

Beneteau saw an opportunity to add a little thrill to any cruising adventure, so they took the hull of the First 53 racer (introduced just last year), and with a few fashionable changes, created the Oceanis Yacht 54, the new entry-level of Beneteau’s swanky Oceanis Yacht line. The result is a performance cruiser that sails like a witch and looks like a grande dame.

Design

Roberto Biscontini is the naval architect and Lorenzo Argento created the details of the exterior and interior design.

Galvanic CorrosionIt’s a scary thought – but whether your boat is made of wood, fiberglass, aluminum or composite – it’s slowly deteriorating under you. Part of this is the nature of the marine environment: Sun, moisture, waves, wind, movement and vibration all contribute to components breaking down.

But there are other factors that are much more concerning and act at a significantly faster rate that the environment can take credit for. One of these is commonly spoken of, but not terribly well understood: Corrosion. As boaters, we’re concerned with two main types of corrosion: Galvanic and Stray-Current. This edition will focus on galvanic corrosion – in two weeks, stay tuned for info on stray-current.

Mia and Caleb's EngagementOn July 23 last year, CYOB published a piece on a beautifully restored 1967 Trojan 42 Motor Yacht in Oromocto NB. (That piece was also expanded in CY magazine later in the year.)

One of our Canadian Yachting contributors, Denise Miller, had shared the article on my social media and a young man reached out and asked if she could connect him with the owners of the boat, Dave and Barb. Denise leapt into action and Dave and Barb were thrilled. They concocted a plan that the young lady, Mia, thought she was coming to model for a sales brochure for Dave to do charter tours.
