Hanse Ryck 280HanseYachts AG presents RYCK, its third motorboat brand carrying the "Made in Germany" label. The new brand was developed in Greifswald in cooperation with yacht designer Bill Dixon, and is aimed specifically at sports-minded skippers and crews in the weekender segment.

The first model from the new brand is the RYCK 280, which combines superior handling characteristics with a stylish design.

Deck: A 25cm-wide walkaround deck, guard railing and high freeboard all serve to make this a very safe boat. The stepless cockpit offers a lot of space and freedom of movement and, in addition to the standard L-shaped bench seat, can also be equipped with a table, fridge and a wetbar including a grill or cooker. The backrest of the bench seat folds down to create a second lounging area that complements the sunpad on the foredeck.

With the T-top and two additional awnings, the entire deck area can be shaded, while optional fishing rod holders and a tow bar for water skiing also appeal to active crew members. The large bathing platform with its ladder and a stern shower with hot and cold water make for carefree fun in the water. A bowsprit with integrated anchor arm and an electric windlass guarantee safe and comfortable anchoring.

Hanse Ryck 280Interior: Below deck, the customer can opt for a modern furnished cabin with a large double berth; or for a large storage space for water sports equipment. A separate wet room is fitted as standard. The large windows in the coachroof allow plenty of natural light and fresh air into the interior.

Hull: The stepped hull ensures the best rough water characteristics, while the reverse bow underlines the modern and elegant design of the RYCK 280.

Helm station and engine: Well-protected by a stylish windscreen, the ergonomic driving position can be enhanced with a glass bridge control panel that includes two 12in plotters. A Mercury Verado outboard provides all the necessary power, with a choice of 250, 300 or 350hp.

The name RYCK is based on the river of the same name that flows through Greifswald and connects the main production site of HanseYachts AG to the Baltic Sea. Since the company was founded in 1990 on the northern bank of the Ryck, HanseYachts AG has developed into one of the world's largest manufacturers of series-produced sailing and motor yachts.

World Premiere of the RYCK 280 will be at the Cannes Yachting Festival from 7-12 September, in the Vieux Port.

Beneteau Oceanis Yacht 54By Zuzana Prochazka

Beneteau saw an opportunity to add a little thrill to any cruising adventure, so they took the hull of the First 53 racer (introduced just last year), and with a few fashionable changes, created the Oceanis Yacht 54, the new entry-level of Beneteau’s swanky Oceanis Yacht line. The result is a performance cruiser that sails like a witch and looks like a grande dame.

Design

Roberto Biscontini is the naval architect and Lorenzo Argento created the details of the exterior and interior design.

Galvanic CorrosionIt’s a scary thought – but whether your boat is made of wood, fiberglass, aluminum or composite – it’s slowly deteriorating under you. Part of this is the nature of the marine environment: Sun, moisture, waves, wind, movement and vibration all contribute to components breaking down.

But there are other factors that are much more concerning and act at a significantly faster rate that the environment can take credit for. One of these is commonly spoken of, but not terribly well understood: Corrosion. As boaters, we’re concerned with two main types of corrosion: Galvanic and Stray-Current. This edition will focus on galvanic corrosion – in two weeks, stay tuned for info on stray-current.

Mia and Caleb's EngagementOn July 23 last year, CYOB published a piece on a beautifully restored 1967 Trojan 42 Motor Yacht in Oromocto NB. (That piece was also expanded in CY magazine later in the year.)

One of our Canadian Yachting contributors, Denise Miller, had shared the article on my social media and a young man reached out and asked if she could connect him with the owners of the boat, Dave and Barb. Denise leapt into action and Dave and Barb were thrilled. They concocted a plan that the young lady, Mia, thought she was coming to model for a sales brochure for Dave to do charter tours.
