SBAWThe 2019 North American Safe Boating Awareness Week Campaign is ramping up for this year's boating season. Since 1995, this campaign has been the mainstay of boating safety outreach to the over 16 million people who recreate on Canadian waters each season.

FlotillaFlotillas, rendezvous and other boater group trips are becoming more and more popular worldwide and increasingly diverse. Most having specific activities and themes depending on interests.

National Volunteer WeekFrom April 7 to 13, Volunteer Canada and Canadian Power and Sail Squadrons (CPS-ECP) celebrate Canada’s 12.7 million volunteers during National Volunteer Week (NVW).

RadioDuring the course of the past year, the Maritime Radio Course committee has been working diligently, primarily through teleconferencing, to revise the Maritime Radio Course..

Volunteers and boaters from across North America will congregate in Victoria, British Columbia to exchange ideas, have their say in the business of CPS-ECP, attend workshops, network with old friends and meet new ones.

CommunicationAn ongoing flow of information between our three levels, Squadron, District and National, is the prime target of the Communications Priority. At times action is requested and required, and at other times important messages need to be shared.

Volvo Penta 130 and 150 SaildrivesOnce our boat comes out of the water, I take the annual fall tour of the hull so I can determine what to worry about all winter. The first thing I note is that the sacrificial anode I had intended to replace prior to launch last spring remains un-replaced.


I recall, as I look blankly at it, that my plan was to attach a brand new anode that I got from the previous owner many years ago, but when I removed it from its packaging, it was clear it wasn’t the correct match for my drive. Perhaps that’s why he hadn’t installed it. And why I went no further.

Burrard Yacht ClubNorth Vancouver’s Burrard Yacht Club and West Vancouver’s Hollyburn Sailing Club are the newest certified members of Clean Marine BC, Georgia Strait Alliance’s eco-certification program that supports recreational boating facilities to reduce the impact of their operations on Burrard Inlet, the Salish Sea and beyond.


Clean Marine BC works with boating facilities to implement and improve environmental best practices for marinas, boat yards, yacht and sailing clubs, fuel docks and harbour authorities, and recognizes them for these efforts.
