Pooches Onboard

Last time we published a picture of a cute doggie in a life jacket (my pup btw) and we received a couple of great boating canine pics in return.

Already an enthusiastic photo contributor (thanks!) Mike Johnson of the Oakville Power and Sail Squadron sent along a great shot of Lacy, his son Marcus’ boat-friendly Nova Scotia duck toller at Wilson NY, cheeseburger in paradise party aboard the family’s Silverton 38X.

Brody PoochAnd Dean Gresko of the Thunder Bay Yacht Club sent in this, “ Here’s a photo of our Golden Retriever, Brody, on board our Beneteau Swift Trawler 50 at Thompson Island on Lake Superior near Thunder Bay last summer. He loves the swimming and watching the ducks quack at him. Lol”

Here are the PotW rules – the photos must be taken from or near a boat. They don’t have to be pet shots, but a dog on the boat is always a winner! They must be your shots and free from copyright. Most importantly, they must be wonderful. Send the to us via CYonboard@kerrwil.com and put Photo in the subject line.

We’ll publish yours in the next issue!!

We met with Neptunus Managing Director Jan Willem De Jong this past fall to take the new Neptunus 650F out in Lake Ontario.

The Other Virgin Islands

Sunset off St John

By Mark Stevens

I was first seduced by the United States Virgin Islands during a ferry ride from St. Thomas to Tortola to begin one of our earliest British Virgin Islands charters nearly twenty years ago.

A perfect sunset off St. John with St. Thomas views for backdrop.

Clearing Pillsbury Sound, surrounded by voluptuous emerald mountains as the ferry sliced through royal blue waters, I was struck by the unspoiled ambiance of St. John, the island gliding past our starboard beam and the irresistible charm of a village called Cruz Bay visible from our quarter stern.
