Meet the Newbies: Hanse 675

Hanse 675 Annapolis

Jan 23, 2020

Canadian Yachting’s Katherine Stone headed to Annapolis just last fall to scrutinize the new offerings at the 2019 US Sailboat Show. In CY’s February issue Katherine tells us what she saw with photos of features and ideas that made seven boats stand out. Here’s what she said about one she found very impressive.

The Hanse 675 is truly an innovative yacht making its North American debut at this boat show and the pinnacle of cruising luxury and superior speed. It is also in the running for SAIL and Cruising World’s 2020 Boat of the Year.

Hanse 675 HardtopThere are numerous new features that make this boat out standing. The galley is self-contained in the port aft section with a pocket door to close it off from the salon, but there is also a walk through from the aft cabin to the galley. The storage for dry foodstuffs, refrigeration and wine is over the top, with a designated wine cooler located under the bar with access outside the galley. The elegant owner’s cabin has a king island bed, chaise lounge and en suite bathroom with a rain shower and wellness area.

Hanse 675 SalonThe showstopper for me was the guest cabin with a modular bed for one, two or three persons in a bunk bed configuration with their own head – perfect for the kids to squabble over who gets what bed!

All halyards and sheets are hidden below deck. There are two forestays for comfortable sail change and no need for sail storage. The cockpit tables are electronically adjustable. The unique carbon T-top provides a sunshade, allowing you to have a visual on your sails to adjust trim and view the stars at night.

You can read Katherine’s informative article in the February edition of Canadian Yachting, out now.

Neptunus 650F Review

Neptunus 650F 400

By Andy Adams

Over the years Canadian Yachting has had the pleasure of doing several boat review articles on new Neptunus models and we are familiar with the qualities that Neptunus is famous for. They have all been exceptional yachts, but this is the one I would most want to own myself. It’s a personal choice and a matter of taste as to whether you would prefer to have a sedan express model or a flybridge but in my opinion, the flybridge layout offers some wonderful attributes.

We met with Neptunus Managing Director Jan Willem De Jong this past fall to take the new Neptunus 650F out in Lake Ontario.

The Other Virgin Islands

Sunset off St John

By Mark Stevens

I was first seduced by the United States Virgin Islands during a ferry ride from St. Thomas to Tortola to begin one of our earliest British Virgin Islands charters nearly twenty years ago.

A perfect sunset off St. John with St. Thomas views for backdrop.

Clearing Pillsbury Sound, surrounded by voluptuous emerald mountains as the ferry sliced through royal blue waters, I was struck by the unspoiled ambiance of St. John, the island gliding past our starboard beam and the irresistible charm of a village called Cruz Bay visible from our quarter stern.
