Princess YachtsAt 55m x 39m – more than half a football field - the Princess Yachts display in Dusseldorf would have been incredible. It would have been even more incredible but for the other equally staggering booths set up by the world’s prestige builders at the 2020 boot show in Dusseldorf.

Miami Shows 2020As we have done for many years, Canadian Yachting Media was at the Miami International Boat Show and also the Miami Yacht Show, two separate boat shows which were both held in Miami on the American President’s Day weekend, February 12 to 16, 2020.

Steiner ContestCanadian Yachting celebrated the Toronto Show with a contest to win some superb Steiner binoculars. There was a barrel of entries and now Greg Nicoll, publisher of Canadian Yachting Magazine would like to congratulate the winner of the Steiner Navigator Binoculars and would also like to thank all those who enter the contest.

Granville IslandDespite Metro Vancouver experiencing some cold and wet weather conditions at the start of the week, attendance remained steady with serious, qualified buyers and strong onsite sales reported by exhibitors.

HIBS 2020 WrapupThe Halifax International Boat Show 2020 spanned four days of interesting weather and good crowds! Show Manager Scott Sprague summed it up: “Despite bad weather for days one and two, days three and four delivered good crowds.”

TIBS 2020 opening weekendPer tradition, Toronto was hit with a good amount of snow just in time for the opening weekend of the Toronto International Boat Show. Did that stop the crowds? Absolutely not, we welcomed a huge crowd opening weekend.

Ottawa Boat ShowIt might be the middle of winter – but if you find yourself daydreaming of sunny days out on the water, mark your calendar for February 20-23 at the EY Centre in Ottawa, where the Ottawa Boat Show will be offering up a taste of summer.

TwiggyThe Vancouver International Boat Show will include more than 250 exhibitors, providing boat enthusiasts with a first look at the 2020 boating season’s premiere boat models and accessories - and include over 125 presentations and workshops led by boating experts.

Hanse 675 AnnapolisCanadian Yachting’s Katherine Stone headed to Annapolis just last fall to scrutinize the new offerings at the 2019 US Sailboat Show. In CY’s February issue Katherine tells us what she saw with photos of features and ideas that made seven boats stand out. Here’s what she said about one she found very impressive.

Boot 2020Seventeen halls full of water related exhibits, perhaps a dozen of them full of boats and equipment. You might go to Miami or Annapolis to see the boat of your dreams, but you still wouldn’t get the same overwhelming scene. It might be because the whole show is inside that it is such an exciting event.

Cruisers Yachts 42 GLSBy Andy Adams

Once again, Cruisers Yachts is leading the market for day boats with their new 42 GLS model that premiered at the Fort Lauderdale Boat Show at the end of October. The concept of a large day boat is now a very well-established trend made possible by the amazing new power and efficiency of the latest four stroke outboards.

Buyers are looking for a different boating experience and we think that the 42 GLS nails it. Fast, handsome and versatile, the 42 GLS is designed for fun and adventure.

This time it was Noel and Tracey Dinan, whose new shallow-draft Allures 49.5 was in build at the time, we headed north from the Exumas across the expanse of the Great Bahama Bank, dodging coral patches as we sailed to Eleuthera then Marsh Harbour, Great Abaco. Another commercial centre in the islands, we cleared out of the Bahamas here after provisioning for our offshore passage up to the Chesapeake Bay on the US mainland and out of the Hurricane Zone until mid-November...

WinterizationBy Andrew McDonald, Lakeside Marine Services

“They don’t make ‘em like they used to”, is a phrase that many of us are familiar with. Most of the time it is in reference to a bygone era of better, and it’s used to lament the sorry state of what we have today. It is a phrase that can be applied to many areas of our lives: architecture, art, furniture, tools. Boats? I would argue that they don’t make them like they used to. But, is that lamentable, or is it progress?

Progress, I think. With this concept in mind, as we enter another season of putting boats to bed for the winter, why do we winterize as we always have?
