Busy summer on the waterfront at DYC

DYC Pirates

July 26, 2018

This year the Halifax waterfront has been busier than ever. We’ve covered the Boxing Rock regatta and Route Saint Pierre and just recently the area near Bishop’s Landing was packed with over 60 boats, many sporting Pirate crews. All this activity helps bring new people into boating as visitors can see all the many ways they could be enjoying the harbour.

Rick Norman sent us this on the recent and very successful Dartmouth Yacht Club Poker Run.

DYC Pirates FlagHello CYOB,

Every year the Dartmouth Yacht Club (DYC) invites powerboaters and sailors from the area to join in a Poker Run which has various stops throughout Halifax Harbour.

This years “Pirates of Halifax Harbour” themed event was our biggest success ever with 65 boats taking part (42 Power and 23 Sail) and over 250 people for dinner back at the new DYC clubhouse. The day starts off with a captains meeting at DYC, various checkpoints throughout the harbour, Lunch stop at Bishops landing, and stops on the way back to DYC. Once back at the club we draw for the best poker hands, give away thousands of dollars worth of prizes followed by Dinner and a dance with a band on the deck!

DYC Pirates 2We are lucky to have some great companies support our event. (listed below).

Try and support our sponsors when you can…….

Seamasters, VMG Marine, Edgewater Marine, Atlantic Car Stereo, Halifax Waterfront Development, Allains Sales and Service, Jesse Pizza, Expert Electric, Scanway Catering, Edgecombe Sports, Keiths Brewery, Nine Locks, Sawlor Build Homes, Dartmouth Hampton Hotel, Giant Tiger.

Neptunus 650F Review

Neptunus 650F 400

By Andy Adams

Over the years Canadian Yachting has had the pleasure of doing several boat review articles on new Neptunus models and we are familiar with the qualities that Neptunus is famous for. They have all been exceptional yachts, but this is the one I would most want to own myself. It’s a personal choice and a matter of taste as to whether you would prefer to have a sedan express model or a flybridge but in my opinion, the flybridge layout offers some wonderful attributes.

We met with Neptunus Managing Director Jan Willem De Jong this past fall to take the new Neptunus 650F out in Lake Ontario.

The Other Virgin Islands

Sunset off St John

By Mark Stevens

I was first seduced by the United States Virgin Islands during a ferry ride from St. Thomas to Tortola to begin one of our earliest British Virgin Islands charters nearly twenty years ago.

A perfect sunset off St. John with St. Thomas views for backdrop.

Clearing Pillsbury Sound, surrounded by voluptuous emerald mountains as the ferry sliced through royal blue waters, I was struck by the unspoiled ambiance of St. John, the island gliding past our starboard beam and the irresistible charm of a village called Cruz Bay visible from our quarter stern.
