Torqeedo attracts new investment

Our favourite electric outboard motor manufacturer is continuing to expand. The venture arm of the Bosch Group has invested in Torqeedo, the global leader in electric outboard motors from Starnberg, Germany. Since its formation in 2005, Torqeedo has been known to boaters as the undisputed pioneer in electric outboards. Its multiple award-winning motors feature record levels of efficiency, integrated lithium batteries, an ultra-light design and innovative on-board computers. Canadian Yachting West has a Torqeedo outboard on long term test this summer and will be reporting on its operations later this year.

Robert Bosch Venture Capital GmbH has acquired a minority share in Torqeedo. This financing round will help Torqeedo to accelerate its growth and continue to develop its range of innovative products. Existing investors participated in this financing round alongside Robert Bosch Venture Capital. "In our opinion, Torqeedo is in an excellent global position to drive marine electric-mobility forward," commented Dr. Dieter Kraft, investment partner from Robert Bosch Venture Capital.

Torqeedo's co-founder and CEO, Dr. Christoph Ballin, is delighted to have succeeded in securing Robert Bosch Venture Capital as a partner for Torqeedo. "Having Bosch's expertise in electric-mobility within the shareholder base can't be valued highly enough and is something that all of our customers will benefit from," he said.
Torqeedo is now fully equipped to expand its leading position in the growing market for marine e-mobility. Combining lithium batteries with leading-edge motor technology and propeller design, Torqeedo's high-tech outboards have won numerous awards. Environmentally-sound, they offer unrivalled strength and efficiency for superior range.

Torqeedo motors are sold at a number marine retailers in BC, most notably Steveston Marine in Vancouver, Richmond and Langley.

Neptunus 650F 400

By Andy Adams

Over the years Canadian Yachting has had the pleasure of doing several boat review articles on new Neptunus models and we are familiar with the qualities that Neptunus is famous for. They have all been exceptional yachts, but this is the one I would most want to own myself. It’s a personal choice and a matter of taste as to whether you would prefer to have a sedan express model or a flybridge but in my opinion, the flybridge layout offers some wonderful attributes.

We met with Neptunus Managing Director Jan Willem De Jong this past fall to take the new Neptunus 650F out in Lake Ontario.

The Other Virgin Islands

Sunset off St John

By Mark Stevens

I was first seduced by the United States Virgin Islands during a ferry ride from St. Thomas to Tortola to begin one of our earliest British Virgin Islands charters nearly twenty years ago.

A perfect sunset off St. John with St. Thomas views for backdrop.

Clearing Pillsbury Sound, surrounded by voluptuous emerald mountains as the ferry sliced through royal blue waters, I was struck by the unspoiled ambiance of St. John, the island gliding past our starboard beam and the irresistible charm of a village called Cruz Bay visible from our quarter stern.
