Shelley FoordIf you have been “bottoming out” on saggy old boat mattresses, living with musty carpet or looking at out of date upholstery, this is the time of year to consider having your boat interior redone. A lot of companies are out there and able to help you with canvas and upholstery but there are also sources for custom bedding and custom sized mattresses to make next season both more comfortable and more attractive for your family and your guests.

CY October 2013 CoverWe hope our readers liked the cover photo of Distant Shores on the cover of the October issue of Canadian Yachting magazine, but we wanted to apologize for errors in the "On The Cover" information on page 5.
First, the photo credit for this dreamy shot should have been given to Paul Shard.
Second, we gave the American broadcast information and not the list of Canadian broadcasters. Our Canadian viewers have been able to watch the Distant Shores television show for the past three years across Canada on the

Spirit of TraditionAn Old Bluenose is given new life. The prospective new owner of the old Bluenose 24 had two objectives to satisfy in the hunt for his new yacht; the boat had to be a beautiful classic AND it would serve as an ornament to be anchored in front of his Muskoka cottage. Stuart Cottrelle came to Gordon Laco, a friend, sailor and outfitter of classic yachts supplier of traditional marine gear, with an idea. Cottrelle was attracted by the beauty and performance characteristics of Meter Class

Emirates - Oracle Americas Cup 2013Just when you thought Team Oracle USA was going to be almost shut out of the America's Cup racing by challenger Team Emirates New Zealand, they came back with a few adjustments to their boat and a crew that has executed brilliantly. The action on the course has been some of the best America's Cup match racing ever, and probably may never be seen again. The AC72s are fast and the tactics added to the thrill and challenges on San Francisco Bay. San Francisco may turn out to be one of the best venues for America's Cup racing. Over the weekend, the crowds

NYYC Invitational Winners 2013The Royal Canadian Yacht Club team from Toronto has won the 2013 New York Yacht Club Invitational Cup presented by Rolex, successfully defending the title they first won in 2011 during the second edition of this biennial Corinthian event.  The Canadian team had moved into the lead on the penultimate day of racing, displacing the American team from Larchmont Yacht Club who had held the overall lead for the first three days of the five-day event.

Chester Race Week 2013Spectators gathered at the Chester Yacht Club in anticipation for the last day of Chester Race Week 2013. Newcomers and longtime race week attendees stood at the dock early in the afternoon watching the remarkable sails of the Bluenose fleet as they crossed the harbour during one of the final day’s races. A wind shift prior to the last race of the iconic Bluenose class resulted in a race cancellation as the 3 p.m. closing time approached. Despite that, they raced seven times over the course of the week with Chase pulling ahead as the overall winner.

 Killarney

KillarneyStory and Photos by: Jennifer Harker

We’re aboard Attigouatan, a Pursuit 2260 that normally lives life as a friend’s cottage boat, running back and forth from dock to dock. This will be her longest run in four years, travelling the approximately 120 kilometres (80 miles) northwest from Parry Sound to Killarney, threading our way through the northern reaches of the stunning 30,000 Islands of Georgian Bay’s eastern shoreline.

Her name evokes an early indigenous name for Lake Huron – Spirit Lake.

Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 440

Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 440By Zuzana Prochazka

There are few things more satisfying than watching someone thumb their nose at tradition and introduce something revolutionary that kicks convention to the curb. French designer, Philippe Briand, has done just that for Jenneau’s new line of Sun Odyssey family cruisers. By starting with a clean sheet, Briand re-thought how we move about on deck and below, and the results on the Jeanneau 440 are game changing.

Jeanneau unveiled the first hull of their 440 in Annapolis with dramatic flair. On command, the plastic that sheathed half the boat...
