Parks GeneratorCanadian Yachting has learned that there might be restrictions on generator use in the Thousand Islands National Park or other parks. So, we contacted Parks Canada and this is the official response to our question regarding the use of generators at Thousand Islands National Park:

SwiftsureDuring the recent Patos Island Race hosted by Sidney North Saanich Yacht Club (SNSYC) racers  and fans were disappointed in the RaceTracker provided by the Swiftsure International Race organization when it failed during the race. The Swiftsure organization deeply regrets this failure that persisted despite making every effort to solve the difficulties during the race. The problem, however, did not originate with the Swiftsure RaceTracker

Beneteau America has unveiled a new organization to lead their strategy in the Americas, with a single North/South axis. Both Central and South America are now under the management of Bruno Gouezigoux, reporting to the Beneteau America office based in Annapolis, MD.

Solo Sailor Rescue

Yet another solo sailor has been rescued by a commercial ship, this time a car carrier, after his yacht was rolled and holed during a storm in the South Pacific, some 1250nm north east of Auckland. Canadian sailor Art Munneke, a member of the SaltSpring Island Yacht Club, had survived for five days after the incident, augmenting his electric bilge pump with hand pumping. When the bilge pump failed he let off his EPIRB.

Outdoor Life

The Atlantic Marine Trades Association has learned that the OLN Network is planning to film travel segments this summer with Newfoundland & Labrador, PEI, Nova Scotia and other surrounding areas scheduled as stops in their TV series.

Race The CapeCape Breton Island is a sailors’ destination.  Race the Cape is a sailor’s dream.  Five days of challenging point to point racing through the amazing Bras d’Or and along Cape Breton’s rugged Atlantic coast.  Seven nights of legendary Cape Breton food, hospitality and entertainment!

John OsborneThe word legend implies that you have been around for a long time and John who has been racing sailboats for over 60 years it doesn’t seem that long.  In addition to his sailing prowess John has also been in the marine industry for almost 50 years.  In that time he has worked in boat building, spar and fitting manufacturing, sail making, and for the past number of years the as a distributor of marine hardware.

LoorThe Lake Ontario 300 Challenge is the premier offshore race on Lake Ontario, and it provides a challenging circumnavigation of the lake. A group of double handed racers originally developed the The Lake Ontario 300 Challenge as the ultimate double handed challenge in 1990 and it still remains the longest annual fresh water race.

ConcordWith the launch of its first 65’ Concord, Coastal Craft of Gibsons BC marks both its largest build to date and a departure in styling from its smaller designs. At the request of the customer, says president Jeff Rhodes, the aluminum builder has given the 65 a European-influenced profile that is both more upright, with two full decks, and more gracefully swept back than the workboat-inspired styling of its smaller boats.

John Craig

Craig was for 11 years the PRO at St. Francis Yacht Club and who most recently the PRO of the 34th America’s Cup. Sail-World talked to him in San Francisco yesterday, as he prepares to head to Southampton about the challenges ahead in steering the major restructure of the ISAF peak Olympic class series.

Axopar 37 XCWhole new ball game…

Set aside your assumptions and expectations for a few minutes while we try to describe the new Axopar 37 XC that made its American debut at the 2020 Miami International Boat Show. This boat represents a whole new ball game in terms of design, performance, seakeeping and functionality. In fact, I’d say it takes a ‘clean sheet of paper’ approach to boating – it’s that different.

Canadians are blessed in many ways and especially when it comes to boating. We enjoy some the world’s most beautiful cruising waters and many places are as sheltered as they are scenic.

British Columbia and the Pacific North West plainly have the most breath-taking scenery with the combination of the majestic ocean views and the snow-capped mountains in the distance. It’s like no place on earth when you have a Killer Whale breach beside your little fishing boat.

This issue, we will look at Section B of Part 2, General Limitations, which is essentially limitations applying to boats that have right of way according to Section A.

GENERAL LIMITATIONS
