Ontario sailing and GillApril 11 2016

Ontario Sailing and Gill North America are excited to announce a multi-year partnership that will see Gill North America support the Ontario Sailing Team and their coaching staff with technical podium gear. Athletes will have access to the full line of Gill's state of the art technical gear for their needs on and off the water. Gill North America will also be supplying the Ontario Sailing Learning Facilitators, our Board, and other athletes on the Ontario Summer Games team with clothing.

Gill will continue to sponsor the Gill North America Sailor of the Year Award that is given annually at the Ontario Sailing Annual General Meeting held each January.

Gill is the only purely marine clothing brand, making ultra-technical marine clothing focused on the racing and cruising sailor while also serving the boating community at large. The partnership with Ontario Sailing allows the brand to continue increasing presence and activity as the brand grows form strength to strength. David Pritchard, president of Gill North America, notes "Gill is delighted to be working with some of the best sailing athletes in Canada who are part of the Ontario Sailing Team. Through this multi-year agreement Gill plans to support the team needs, win championships and develop new innovative products for the masses.

Ontario Sailing is the Sport Governing Body for Sailing in Ontario. Our Mission is to develop participation and competition in boating for our members through leadership in: Advocacy, High performance athletics/ athlete development, Best practices and governance, Education and training.

The Ontario Sailing Team is comprised of Ontario's top level sailing athletes in the Laser, Laser Radial, 49er, 49er FX, 470, 420 and RSX. These athletes are supported by a highly trained and dedicated coaching team. Many of these athletes are carded by the Province of Ontario's Quest for Gold Program and have personal goals of making the transition to the National Sailing Team.

The Middens of Galiano Island

By Catherine Dook

We motored our way into Montague Harbour along a twisted channel with our engine muffled by the leaning trees.

“This is peaceful,” I told my husband, John.

“Look,” I pointed to an eagle sitting on the top of a tree overlooking the channel entrance like a sentinel giving permission for us to pass. Dignified, unruffled, his impassioned gaze noted and then dismissed us, as uninteresting and perhaps unworthy. I was tired. We’d pulled up anchor at Portland Island that morning, and the grind of the diesel engine had worn me down.

Almost a decade ago, Cruisers Yachts Inc., launched an entire line of express cruisers called “Cantius” (named after company owner KC Stock’s grandfather) that began with the 48Cantius then came the 54, the 60 and now the Cantius 50. In the fall of 2017, we will be at the debut of the 42 Cantius at the Fort Lauderdale International boat show.

These designs have a strong family resemblance withhandsome and distinctive linesand with a design philosophy that you could say, pioneered the new version of the express cruiser.
