POTW August 8 - Photo by Jessica LeeThis shot was taken last week by Jessica Lee, a freelance photography pro, Albacore racer and part time crew.  We were aboard Esprit de Corps III, one of Canada’s few internationally competing racers.  Our skipper, Maxime Grimard, who you can see overseeing the amateur media types hauling might appear a trifle amused, since he has taken the boat though some very heavy stuff in pursuit of offshore racing.

POTW - Aug 8 - Atlas

EDC III and Maxime are part of Atlas Ocean Racing, a Canadian sailing team. They were visiting Toronto to acclimatize some new crew and to host one of their key sponsors, Helly Hansen, which also sponsors Chester Race Week.

Here’s Atlas’ shot of the boat underway.

In Ontario, marinas, boat launches, yacht clubs and the professionals that service the marine industry aren’t considered essential, unless the service and location allows a person to access their permanent residence only accessible by boat.

Sitting at the intersection of three world-class Canadian bodies of water, Lake Ontario, the St. Lawrence River, and the UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Rideau Canal (Cataraqui River from Kingston to Newboro), the water’s influence is deeply woven into Kingston’s culture and history.
